The beginning of the 2023-24 financial year on 1 July will bring changes that affect the lives of seniors, both retirees and those still in the workforce.

An elderly man died after a fire broke out at a retirement village in Kilmore, while his wife and neighbours managed to escape their burning units on Wednesday morning.

Residents of Kingsgate Village, north of Melbourne, were forced to flee their homes when two units caught on fire shortly after 6am.
